Stitched and large bound-resist parti-colored

Technique: Somewake Shibori - Parti-colored dyeing is essential when the design calls for bold dark & light or contrasting colored areas as seen in the kimono worn by the woman in the print. This process is done by stitching in the middle (white resist line). The fabric is dyed first in green, then one side is capped to preserve the green while the other side is dyed in dark blue. This is similar to oke shibori, tub-resist dyeing, where a large section of a bolt of fabric is placed in a container and thus preserved from dye. Process illustrations are from the book “Shibori: The Inventive Art of Japanese Shaped Resist Dyeing”  by Wada, Rice, and Barton. (c)1983

Pattern: Some comes from a Japanese verb someru, meaning to dye, and wake comes from a verb wakeru meaning to divide; thus we use the term parti-color dyeing.

Color: Green/Blue
