Handmade Japanese Washi Shikishi Paper

Regular price $11.00

This paper is made in an artisan washi (Japanese paper) studio that holds a legacy for traditional Japanese papermaking dated back to the Edo period. Master papermaker Miki Tachibana continues to operate her family's studio "Kiryu Washi Workshop", a regional intangible folk cultural property.

The washi shikishi paper is handmade with traditional Japanese methods using 100% kozo fiber from the mulberry tree and Mrs. Tachibana's homegrown tororo-aoi, a plant in the mallow family whose roots produce mucilage called neri which is essential to the formation of washi

Each sheet has four deckled edges with a durable textured and smoothed side. The surface suits printmaking, calligraphy, and drawing. The paper can be used as a substrate for sample-making, collage, matting and presentations, and bookmaking. Please note that because papers are handmade, their size and shape may slightly vary.

Approximately 25 x 27cm (9.75 x 10.75in), 1mm thick, weighing 11-12 grams, unsized, acid-free, natural off-white tone.
