Cotton Shibori Thread Skein - Stitching

Regular price $10.00

Imported from Japan, this 100% cotton thread is the same kind used by professional shibori artisans in Arimatsu. It has the right amount of twist to allow for some give, enabling tight compression of stitched lines. Use for all types of stitched patterns including mokume (wood grain), ori-nui, maki-nui, hishaki-nui, shippō-tsunagi (linked circles), and outlines for bōshi (capped) and makiage (crisscross binding).

Visit the Workshop Tips and Clips page on the Slow Fiber Studios website to find videos on How to Properly Open and Use a Skein & How to make the same thimble shibori artisans use in Japan for nui shibori, as well as sashiko.

View how Arimatsu shibori artisans perform nui shibori in the DVD Arimtasu Narumi Shibori: Celebrating 400 years of Japanese Artisan Design.
