11 ISS Exhibitions Catalog: SHIBORI
This catalog for three major exhibitions held in Nagoya in conjunction with the 11th International Shibori Symposium (Nagoya, Tokyo, and Yamagata, Japan 2018) features a rare survey of historical Japanese shibori examples.
"Nagoya Castle and Arimatsu-Narumi Shibori," exhibited in Nagoya Castle's Honmaru Palace, collects regional examples of traditional shibori including Narumi shibori, Bungo shibori, Chikuzen amagi shibori, Niigata shirone shibori, Akita asamai shibori, and Morioka nanbu shikonzome shibori, tracing the lineage of Arimatsu-Narumi shibori as it developed from the community of laborers drawn from across the country to build Nagoya Castle.
"History of Japanese Shibori," collected historical Japanese shibori and kimono works from the Nara period for display at the Furukawa Art Museum's Tamesaburō Furukawa Memorial Hall, while "Arashi Shibori" at the Nagoya City Museum focused on Arimatsu-Narumi’s arashi shibori techniques.
